New 284,000-Square-Foot Facility to Focus on Cocoa-Free Chocolate and Nut-Free Spreads
Voyage Foods, a California-based food-tech start-up, has revealed plans to open a 284,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Mason, Ohio. This facility will be dedicated to producing the company’s innovative products, including cocoa-free chocolate, nut-free spreads, and bean-free coffee. The plant is expected to become fully operational by early next year, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 metric tons of cocoa-free chocolate.
A Sustainable Vision for the Future of Food
Founded in 2021, Voyage Foods aims to revolutionize the food industry by creating sustainable alternatives to popular products, reducing reliance on traditional ingredients. By developing vegan-friendly, allergen-free products made from widely available plant-based ingredients, the company seeks to ease pressure on vulnerable supply chains, such as cocoa production. Many of their ingredients are upcycled from waste, contributing to a more sustainable food system.
Expansion Supported by Strategic Partnerships and Funding
Earlier this year, Voyage Foods entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Cargill, enhancing its global reach in B2B markets, particularly with CPG and foodservice companies. The construction of the Ohio facility is partly funded by a $25 million loan from the US Department of Agriculture. With headquarters and another manufacturing site in Oakland, California, Voyage Foods continues to scale its operations following a successful $52 million funding round, bringing total funding to $94 million.
CEO and founder Adam Maxwell expressed his excitement for the company’s growth, saying, “This new facility marks our evolution into large-scale manufacturing, enabling us to deliver value to our people, partners, and the planet.”
