Investment in Advanced Manufacturing
The U.S. Department of Commerce, alongside Edwards Vacuum, has committed $18 million to a state-of-the-art dry pump manufacturing facility in Genesee County, New York. This initiative is backed by the CHIPS and Science Act, aimed at strengthening the domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity.
Strategic Expansion and Job Creation
Located at the Science Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Park (STAMP), Edwards Vacuum’s latest project marks a significant milestone. Having broken ground earlier this year, the facility is set to be the first of its kind in the United States to specialize in the production of dry vacuum pumps, which are critical components in semiconductor manufacturing. This expansion is expected to generate approximately 600 new jobs, bolstering the local economy and reinforcing the region’s role in the national tech industry.
A Milestone for U.S. Manufacturing
Senator Chuck Schumer highlighted the strategic importance of this investment. “This investment will ensure an essential part of the semiconductor supply chain is made right here in Genesee County, surging in demand,” he stated. Schumer emphasized that this venture would support major semiconductor companies across America, like Micron and GlobalFoundries, which require advanced vacuum technology for chip production. The $300+ million facility represents a transformative development for Western New York, positioning it as a central hub in America’s semiconductor supply chain.
