Mainspring Energy Secures $87 Million Grant for Pennsylvania Manufacturing Plant

Investment to Drive Clean Energy Production and Create Hundreds of Jobs

Mainspring Energy has been awarded $87 million by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains to develop a new manufacturing facility in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. This funding, sourced from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Advanced Energy Manufacturing & Recycling Grants Program, will support the expansion of Mainspring’s clean-tech operations and reinforce its position as a leader in the production of fuel-flexible, onsite power generation technology.

Major Investment to Enhance Clean-Tech Manufacturing

The planned facility will span approximately 300,000 square feet and will serve as a production site for Mainspring Energy’s low-emissions linear generators. The project involves an overall investment exceeding $175 million and is expected to generate around 600 jobs for the local community. Once operational, the plant will have the capability to manufacture up to 1,000 linear generators per year. Construction is set to commence in 2025, contributing to regional economic growth and the advancement of clean energy initiatives.

Commitment to Innovation and Workforce Development

Mainspring Energy CEO and Founder Shannon Miller expressed gratitude for the federal support, stating, “Mainspring is honored to be selected by the U.S. Department of Energy for this critical manufacturing grant, which will provide domestic supply chain resilience for clean power infrastructure. By ramping up production of linear generators in Pennsylvania, Mainspring can contribute a key role in the nation’s energy transition with a proven and versatile technology for dispatchable power.”

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm emphasized the significance of this initiative for national security and community revitalization, noting, “The transition to America’s clean energy future is being shaped by communities filled with the valuable talent and experience that comes from powering our country for decades. By leveraging the know-how and skillset of the former coal workforce, we are strengthening our national security while helping advance forward-facing technologies and revitalize communities across the nation.”
