Pioneering Manufacturing and Workforce Development
Since its establishment of U.S. manufacturing operations in 1979 with motorcycle production in Marysville, Ohio, Honda has built one of the largest and most diverse manufacturing footprints in the United States. Supported by nearly 23,000 associates across 12 plants, Honda’s operations annually produce over 1 million automobiles, 1.5 million engines, 60,000 power equipment products, 200,000 powersports products, and cutting-edge innovations like the HondaJet and GE Honda HF120 turbofan engines. Reflecting its commitment to workforce development, the Honda Technical Development Center (TDC), based in the Honda Heritage Center (HHC), plays a vital role in equipping associates with advanced manufacturing skills through more than 200 technical education and training courses.
As new technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs), reshape the manufacturing landscape, the TDC continues to expand its flexible training programs to meet evolving demands. Since its launch in 2014, the TDC has extended its reach to facilities in Ohio, Alabama, and Indiana, training 3,000 Honda associates annually and fostering community engagement with local students and groups.
Celebrating 10 Years of Heritage and Innovation
Honda recently commemorated the 10th anniversary of its Honda Heritage Center, a $35 million, 160,000-square-foot facility in Marysville that houses the TDC and the Honda Heritage Center Museum. An open house event welcomed Honda leaders, associates, and guests to celebrate this milestone. The museum, which highlights more than six decades of Honda’s history in North America, features over 70 displays of iconic products, forward-looking concepts, and interactive exhibits.
Having temporarily reduced its visitation schedule during the pandemic, the museum will reopen to the public five days a week starting November 21. According to Bob Nelson, executive vice president at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., the museum captures Honda’s legacy of innovation and serves as a testament to its contributions to manufacturing and R&D in North America over the past 65 years.
A Legacy of Investment and Manufacturing Leadership
Over the last 45 years, Honda has invested more than $19 billion in U.S. manufacturing operations, including nearly $2.4 billion in the past five years. The company collaborates with 620 original equipment suppliers and has purchased over $520 billion in U.S.-sourced parts since 1979. As of 2023, 70% of all Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the U.S. were manufactured in America using domestic and globally sourced parts.
With cumulative U.S. auto production exceeding 30 million vehicles, Honda remains a leader in advancing manufacturing innovation and developing a skilled workforce. The anniversary of the Honda Heritage Center underscores the company’s dual focus on honoring its past achievements and preparing for a dynamic, technology-driven future.
