Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s Canadian division has announced a significant investment of over C$575 million ($418.4 million) to upgrade and expand its manufacturing facility in Napanee, Ontario. This initiative, confirmed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday, aims to modernize the plant and boost its production capabilities.
Creation of 200 Jobs by 2027
The extensive project is set to create 200 new jobs by 2027, while also securing 1,000 existing positions at the Napanee site. In support of this expansion, the federal government will provide C$44.3 million in funding, with an additional C$20 million from the Ontario provincial government.
Enhancing EV Tire Production and Net-Zero Goals
This investment underscores Canada’s ongoing efforts to attract key players in the electric vehicle supply chain, ensuring the province remains at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing. The Napanee plant will see increased production capacity, particularly for electric vehicle and all-terrain tires, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. “It’s another vote of confidence in Canada’s auto sector workers,” remarked Trudeau.
