Strategic Investment in Renewable Energy

In a significant development for New Mexico’s renewable energy sector, Bernalillo County Commissioners have unanimously approved the issuance of up to $942 million in Taxable Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB) for Ebon Solar’s forthcoming Project Apollo. The facility, to be located in the Mesa del Sol industrial area, marks a substantial commitment to clean technology and economic development in the region.

Expansive Facility to Create Jobs

The approved bonds will facilitate the construction of an 834,000 square-foot manufacturing plant specializing in photovoltaic (PV) cells—devices essential for converting solar energy into electricity. This initiative is expected to generate more than 900 new jobs, significantly boosting local employment, and advancing technical skills in the community.

Robust Support from Local and State Governments

In addition to the IRBs, the project will receive a $10 million injection from the New Mexico Economic Development Department through the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA), with an additional $1 million contributed by the City of Albuquerque. These investments underscore the strategic importance of the project, which aligns with Bernalillo County’s goal of fostering economic vitality through high-impact clean energy projects.

A Commitment to the Future

District 2 Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting, “This project represents the type of advanced renewable energy manufacturing I want in my district, Bernalillo County, and our state. Bringing over 900 new jobs to central New Mexico is a significant win for our region.” The initiative is poised to position New Mexico as a leader in renewable energy technology.
