Significant Investment to Enhance Capacity and Efficiency
AkzoNobel is making a strategic investment of $3.6 million in its coil and extrusion coatings manufacturing facility in Garcia, Mexico. This initiative aims to increase production capacity and efficiency, benefiting clients across the Americas, including Mexico and the southwestern United States.
Production Capacity Set to Increase by 35%
According to company officials, the investment will enable the Garcia plant to boost coating production by approximately 35% by the third quarter of 2024. The first phase of the project has already been completed, which includes the installation of 12 new portable tanks with varying batch sizes, two new mixers for portable tanks, and a new fixed tank with a 1,200-gallon capacity.
Expansion Amidst Broader Regional Investments
AkzoNobel’s Garcia facility is one of three key coil and extrusion coatings manufacturing sites in the Americas. The other facilities are located in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in coil and extrusion coatings, and Huron, Ohio, which produces essential resins. The Huron site also features a newly completed pilot plant to better meet market demands. This investment in Garcia follows $70 million recently allocated to AkzoNobel’s other industrial coatings manufacturing site in Huron and the research and development facilities in High Point, North Carolina.
